Stride
From our iTunes AppStore listing:
Stride is an accurate, simple pedometer for no-hassle step counting and distance measuring. Stride works best when attached to the hip with a belt clip or belt pouch like any other pedometer, but users have reported success using Stride with the iPhone or iPod Touch in their pockets as well. The number of steps and the distance walked will be saved should the application inadvertently exit, or if you would like to take a break from walking or running. Stride calculates the estimated distance you have run or walked via your step length, the distance your foot moves forward in one step. The slider at the top toggles the step counter on or off and is easily accessible from the belt.
Stride Relaunch
The new release of Stride includes an innovative way to prevent accidental de-activations in your pocket. Instead of a button Stride features a double-locking slider. This control works much like the slide to unlock interface of iPhone, but it will grab onto both the left and the right. This ensures that you only start and stop the counter when you want. The Stride users' guide is now included right in the application - just tap the info button on the settings page to read it.
Stride User's Guide
-Set-up: The first time you launch Stride, you should measure your stride length in order for the program to accurately measure your distance traveled. To do this, take a typical step with one foot and measure the distance between the toe of the foot behind you to the toe of the foot in front of you. It helps to have a friend around for this step!
-Usage: Stride will most accurately count steps when the iPhone or iPod Touch is worn at the hip in an upright position. A belt clip or pouch which holds the device against the hip is ideal. Under these conditions we managed less than a 3% margin of error. Other set ups were less accurate in our testing, but some users have said the program works for them in the pocket as well.
